You Matter To God

Updated: Dec 12, 2018

By Hannah Sweet

Have you ever felt like you weren’t enough for anyone, or that everything that you thought or said was somehow wrong? I sure have. While the person who makes you feel that way isn’t always trying to put you down, but rather build themselves up it still makes you feel small and insignificant. You know in your heart that you are more and the things that you think and feel are worthwhile, but where do you go and who do you turn to, to find that validation you so desperately need in a void nothing can seem to fill? Personally, I find it very satisfying to turn to God to find validation of my self-worth. As I talk with God, my mind as it so often does, is reminded of lyrics to a song, the song itself is a duet from the new Broadway smash Waitress:

It's addictive the minute you let yourself think The things that I say just might matter to someone All of this time I've been keeping my mind on the running away And for the first time I think I'd consider the stay

So stay I shall, with the Lord, because the things that I say really do matter to him. He delights in all my thoughts, hopes, and dreams. He listens to my fears and insecurities. God is the ultimate. As I think on the lyrics to the song I often imagine him singing the opposite part, as if he’s answering my desperation and excitement over having the things that I say matter to someone.

Because you matter to me Simple and plain and not much to ask from somebody You matter to me I promise you do, you, you matter too I promise you do, you see? You matter to me

Because you know what, you do matter to God. Never forget that! Repeat it a million and one times if you have to. YOU MATTER TO GOD! Even if you don’t matter to anyone else, which by the way, is highly unlikely, you matter to God and your life means something!

“For I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14

God doesn’t make mistakes and he isn’t likely to start with you. Remember that no matter how badly other people make you feel, no matter how much you feel like you don’t matter, because you always matter to God.
