Be an angel

There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified! The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.” At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights, Peace to all men and women on earth who please Him.

(Luke 2: 8 - 14, The Message Bible)

I had a friend once who would always look at me and say: ‘Be an angel and …’ I never knew what was coming next but whatever followed was something she wanted me to do for her.

Let’s talk about angels. It was an angel that told the shepherds not to be afraid. It was a HUGE chorus of angels who joined in to sing God’s praises and celebrate Jesus’ birth in the skies above Bethlehem. And it was those very same angels who inspired the shepherds to go immediately to find the baby Jesus. Those angels played a very key role in getting the ball rolling on the celebration of the newborn King!

Could you be one of those modern day angels? We are living in uncertain times filled with chaos and fear. But we, as believers, know there is no reason to be afraid. We have hope even when things appear hopeless. We can play a key role in getting the ball rolling on the celebration of the One who came and promises never to leave us or forsake us.

Jesus wants to be a part of each of each of our lives. He left the courts of heaven and came to earth in the form of a man to be a part of our world. He was born in a cattle stall but He knew there was a cross in His future. He knew He would die and He came anyway. Because He knew that He would die so we could live with Him forever - that’s how much He loves you.

The angels encouraged the shepherds not to be afraid and to seek out the manger and the newborn baby. Be an angel who encourages the people around them not to be afraid but to have hope. Help others to find their way to One who wants to be their Savior.

That would be the greatest Christmas gift someone will receive this Holiday Season.
